Brunel Solar Team win Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025 by using Meandair's Nowcasting Weather Data Products.

Chief Strategist Ruben Zuidgeest:

A short bit about how we used Meandair during the race:
For the first time, the World Solar Challenge has been held in the winter. Additionally, our battery capacity has decreased by 3x compared to the previous edition. This year, it meant less energy, more extreme weather, and overall no room for error. This is where the (cloud) nowcasting from Meandair came into play. The last three days of the challenge, we entered South Australia and the climate became more unpredictable. This meant that the evasion of clouds became crucial for keeping the pole position. By constantly monitoring the movement patterns of clouds, we were able to make key decisions about arrival times at Control Stops, and determine the best locations for End of Day stops. In the end, Nuna was able to catch rays of sun in the parts where it mattered the most.

Head of Business Development Robert de Koning:

The team has shown what is possible when innovation, teamwork and continuously striving for improvement come together. A year of hard work, perseverance and dedication came to fruition when crossing the finishline in first place. The team has given a unique insight in what is possible in a domain that was completely new to us, but fits Meandair Nowcasting Weather perfectly. Well done!

Meandair congratulates the Brunel Solar Team on bringing home the victory with Nuna 13 after more than 3000 kilometers racing through the Australian outback, guided by the Meandair Nowcasting Weather Engine.

Following the victory, the team has indicated its wish to extend the contractual relationship for future years.
